How a Homeowner in Azusa Can Help SERVPRO Technicians Directly

Check with technicians about helping with water damage! Colors can easily bleed!

Consult Technicians Before Taking on Water Damage Restoration Tasks Yourself

Many homeowners are anxious to help during the water restoration process, preferring to be involved in some way with repairs rather than leaving it solely to our technicians. While most of the more complex and delicate tasks should be performed exclusively by our certified and trained technicians, there are a few ways you can help out SERVPRO workers. Be sure to consult a representative or technician first, however, as your honest efforts to help could end up becoming a problem if we aren't aware of them.

Separate Furniture from the Ground

When Azusa water damage affects furniture or carpeting, one of the most important steps in preventing further damage is to ensure that the two are separated. Placing wood blocks, bricks, plastic, or any other hard material between your furniture and the carpet helps to reduce or eliminate contact between them, avoiding bleed and hastening the drying process.

Pick Up Paper and Fabrics, and Separate Them

Be sure to separate any porous materials which have taken on water damage. Most commonly, the objects in question are couch and bed sheets and cushions, or paper publications which have been scattered about. Simply pick these up and leave them in the sun on a hard surface to dry. This also goes for rugs and removable carpeting, and these should be safely moved away to prevent colors from bleeding between fabrics.

Turn off Electronics, Turn On the A/C

Turning on air conditioning can help to start the drying process in warmer months, but you should also turn off other electronics, as they may present a safety hazard or take on additional damage if they are allowed to turn or remain on. Note that if you have found signs of mold damage in the home, you should keep the air conditioning and all HVAC systems off, as turning them on could spread mold spores.

SERVPRO of Azusa / Covina is proud to help local homes and businesses to recover and repair after a water damage disaster. Call us 24/7 at (626) 387-4111 for our help in restorations and getting your home back to normal.
